- On March 3 2016, MPP Michael Harris debated a Private Member’s Motion on creating a Select Committee for Rare Disease Treatment Funding. Unfortunately, the Ontario Liberal Government voted against it making the motion defeated due to the creation of their Rare Disease “Working Group.”
- Almost a year later with no updates from their Rare Disease “Working Group”, MPP Michael Harris tabled a new motion on February 27, 2017 to hold the Government to account. The motion reads as follows:
I move that, in the opinion of this House, the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care should report on the progress of the government’s Working Group on Rare Diseases on a bi- annual basis.
The report should be Tabled with the House, as well as posted on the ministry’s website and should include the membership of the Working Group; the schedule of meetings; the agenda for each meeting; a synopsis of items discussed and meeting outcomes since the last report; and expected outcomes and milestones for the coming year.
The first report should be tabled by March 9th, 2017, with subsequent bi-annual report(s) tabled during the first week of the Fall legislative sitting and at the end of February each year to commemorate Rare Disease Day in Ontario.
